Caregiver Immigration to Canada
Current status: Intake under the Home Care Worker Immigration pilots is paused until further notice. IRCC announced that intake would not reopen in March 2026. A caregiver job offer does not, by itself, allow a new application under a paused permanent residence pathway.
Closed and paused pathways
The Home Child Care Provider Pilot and Home Support Worker Pilot closed on June 17, 2024. Earlier programs, including Caring for Children, Caring for People with High Medical Needs and the Interim Pathway for Caregivers, should not be presented as current application options.
If you already applied
A closed intake does not necessarily mean that an application already submitted will stop being processed. Follow the instructions and deadlines that IRCC provides for your particular application.
Working temporarily as a caregiver
Temporary work authorization and permanent residence are separate matters. Before accepting employment or changing employers, confirm the work authorization and conditions that apply to you.
