Visitor Visa for Canada
A visitor visa allows eligible travellers to request entry to Canada for a temporary visit. The visa’s expiry date is different from the length of stay authorized at entry.
Visa or eTA
Your citizenship, travel document, residence and method of travel determine whether you need a visitor visa or an electronic travel authorization. Check the correct requirement before applying or booking travel.
Prepare your evidence
Applicants must satisfy the officer that their visit is temporary and that they will leave at the end of their authorized stay. Evidence may include the visit plan, finances, employment, family ties, accommodation and an invitation letter where relevant. Medical examinations or biometrics may be required.
Conditions of your stay
Visitors generally cannot work in Canada without appropriate authorization. If you want to extend your stay, review visitor-record requirements and apply within the applicable deadline. A visitor record is not a visa.
Visiting parents and grandparents
Eligible parents and grandparents may consider the separate Super Visa option. Its host, income, medical and insurance requirements differ from a regular visitor visa.
