Documents and eligibility
A study permit application generally requires a letter of acceptance from a designated learning institution, proof of identity and sufficient financial support. A provincial or territorial attestation letter is required in most cases unless an exception applies. Quebec has additional requirements, including the CAQ where applicable.
Medical examinations, police certificates and country-specific documents may also be required. Use the requirements that apply when you submit; older financial figures and checklists may be outdated.
Prepare and submit
Applications must normally be submitted online. Paper applications are limited to specified exceptions. Review the correct application route for your circumstances and allow time for biometrics and processing.
Work and post-graduation planning
Study permission, permission to work and PGWP eligibility are separate matters. Confirm your permit conditions and your particular program’s eligibility before relying on employment or future immigration plans.
