Work Permits for Technology Professionals
Technology workers may qualify for employer-supported work permits or permanent residence pathways, depending on their job, qualifications and immigration history.
Global Talent Stream
The Global Talent Stream is an LMIA route for qualifying employers and positions. Employers must meet the relevant category and Labour Market Benefits Plan requirements. Faster service standards do not guarantee a decision by a particular date.
Other work authorization
LMIA-exempt categories may apply in specific circumstances, including qualifying international agreements or intra-company transfers. Citizenship, duties and employer arrangements determine eligibility. A technology job title alone does not create an exemption.
Business visits and permanent residence
A business visit does not authorize ordinary employment for a Canadian company. Express Entry and provincial programs have separate selection rules. Assess temporary authorization and permanent residence independently.
