Canadian Citizenship
Permanent residents can apply for citizenship when they meet the requirements that apply to their age and circumstances.
Physical presence
Most adult applicants need at least 1,095 days of physical presence in Canada during the five years before signing the application. Eligible time before permanent residence may count at half a day, subject to the applicable limit. Use IRCC’s calculator and review your travel history carefully.
Other requirements
Permanent resident status, tax filing where required, language evidence, citizenship knowledge and prohibitions must be assessed. Age and application category affect which requirements apply. Children have their own application rules.
