Permanent Resident Cards and Travel Documents
A PR card is evidence of permanent resident status. An expired card does not, by itself, mean that you have lost your status.
Residency obligation
Permanent residents generally need at least 730 days in Canada within the applicable five-year period. Certain time outside Canada may count. Review the rules and your travel history, especially if you have been a permanent resident for less than five years.
Renewal or replacement
Check the current application instructions for renewing an expired card or replacing one that is lost, stolen or damaged. The supporting evidence depends on your circumstances. Avoid planning travel around an assumed delivery date.
Returning to Canada
Permanent residents generally need a valid PR card or permanent resident travel document to return by commercial carrier. If you are outside Canada without a valid card, review the PRTD requirements before travelling.
Our Windsor team can review your circumstances and documents and explain the services available under an agreed retainer. Government authorities decide applications; eligibility, invitations and approval are not guaranteed.
