Working in Canada Without a Work Permit
Some specific activities are exempt from the requirement for a work permit. An occupation title alone does not establish an exemption.
Review the activity and conditions
Examples can include qualifying business visitors, certain performers, athletes, speakers and other narrowly defined activities. Each exemption has conditions. Student work and work while an extension is being processed have separate rules.
Entry and immigration status
A work permit exemption does not automatically exempt you from a visitor visa or eTA, admissibility requirements or the conditions of your stay. Confirm the rules before beginning the activity.
Business visits
Attending meetings or international business activities may qualify when you are not directly entering the Canadian labour market. Performing work for a Canadian company may require a work permit.
